May 5th is traditionally a national holiday in Japan. It comes at the end of Golden Week, and until 1948 was known as Boy’s Day where male members of the family would be celebrated.
The day is now known as Children’s Day and celebrates the whole family.
Koinobri, carp shaped windsocks, are flown – each one representing a member of the family.
Our colourful Koinobori come directly from Japan, and make a wonderful decoration for your garden or balcony.
